Park Seo-Joon: King of Rom-Com
I have always been a fan of Korean drama way back when I was in Highschool yet the hook never ceases. Who wouldn't like it anyway? From their interesting storyline, the awesomeness of cinematography, good casting and of course the OSTs!! When quarantine happens and our cities were declared under lockdown, the only thing that got me out of boredom is to watch Kdrama until I came across Crash Landing on You and got kilig overloads. Not satisfied enough, I had this urged to binge-watch all the Kdrama titles in Netflix and the same reason why I watched Itaewon Class, starred by none other than Park Seo-Joon.
Itaewon Class (2020)
This was his first show that I watched and I wasn't really hooked by PSJ here at first because I still have Hyun Bin hangover. I was like, okay this series is Superb. I've been to the point where I was ultimately pissed by the antagonist and couldn't watch the next episodes because of frustrations.
The storyline is really interesting and I could say this is one of the recommendable titles of PSJ. It's far from Rom-Com titles he has had but will rather give you lessons that can imply in real life. What I love here is the OSTs and the cinematography, bruh!💯 The dedication, faith, and fueling desire of Park Sae-royi were his investment to get revenge by gaining the success of his business no matter how long and hard it takes. Then there's Yi Seo, a proclaimed psychopath, that will do anything to help him achieve his dreams. The show itself tackles gender sensitivity, racism and affirmation to one's belief.
Fight For My Way (2017)
Aaaaaahh!! This one goes straight from my heart. I super duper love this show and wish there's a Season 2 or even a continuation. This is literally a Rom-Com that will make you feel kilig to bits and can make you smile like an idiot just by watching. Their acting was very natural and will get you swooned each and every episode.
The whole plot is basically about four high school best friends which is Ae-ra, Dong Man, Sul-hee and Joo-man climbed up to the top no matter how hard to reach their dreams while living the normal happy life. One of my favorite scenes is their rooftop chilling and how cute Ae-ra do that aegyo thing.😂 By the way, this has a lot of kissing scenes just so you know😉 This is where I started crushing over PSJ and have decided to watch all his other titles.
What's Wrong With Secretary Kim? (2018)
And I was like, What's Wrong With Park Seo-Joon? How could he make me fall in love with him without doing nothing?? Uggh. Maybe I was overreacting or nah? But hell, all PSJ fans all over the world can relate! This show proves how adorable and versatile actor he is.
WWWSK is a Rom-Com show that evolves on how to make Secretary Kim Mi-so fall in love with a narcissist Vice Chairman Lee Yeong-jun. Throughout the episodes, Yeong-jun wonders the reason why Mi-so wants to quit her job as a secretary which eventually unveils a wicked past between them. And if you've been warned about kissing scenes on FFMW, this one obviously has. Who couldn't resist his Aura? Even Mi-so can't!😂
She Was Pretty (2015)
The title is literally the whole story is about. Another Rom-Com show of PSJ that will let you Laugh Out Loud. Okay, I got to admit after watching those series above I became dramatically obsessed. Quite frankly, I really don't like his character here on the first few episodes and my attention diverted to Shin Hyuk, Choi Siwon of Super Junior, which is super funny and kinda loving the vibe. He's always there to make Hye-jin happy. Shin Hyuk also proves that second lead man could outstand but then again, he's only the second lead man so that's just it. While Song Joon is stiff and real bossy, I know the pressure of his character though.
The story rolls about two childhood best friends that reconnects after years. Afraid that Hye-jin might dislike her due to her physical appearance, she lets her best friend Ha-ri to pretend to be her. Although the ending is quite predictable, it got me curious about how things will turn around knowing that Song Joon is annoyed by Hye-jin for her constant failure as an employee. As they say, it's not about the destination but the journey rather.
Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016-2017)
After watching Hwarang, this only proves that Park Seo Joon is indeed a versatile actor. Watching all his shows so far, I would say this is the heaviest drama he'd been next to Itaewon Class. If you're a fan of historical series, with a tinge of comedy-romance, this one is for you.
I just thought that the whole plot was going to be the vengeance of Dog-bird for his deceased best friend but it turns out the other way around. He pretends to be his best friend and was recruited as a member of Hwarang, or beautiful men that represent the future of Silla.
Kill Me, Heal Me (2015)
When you ask a Kdrama fanatic, Kill Me, Heal Me is definitely one of the best recommended. It is actually a jam-packed film that tackles Dissociative Identity Disorder and a combination of Romantic-Comedy-Action. Although Park Seo Joon wasn't the main lead here, he plays an important role in the story.
Cha Do-Hyun, suffers from DID and hires Ms. Oh Li-jin as her private Psychiatrist. Meanwhile, Ms. Oh is the brother of Li-on(PSJ), who is a writer and is very protective to Li-jin. I was actually amazed since this is the first series I've watched that involves mental health and Cha Do Hyun(Ji Sung) made an impeccable role of different personalities. Binded by contract, Li-jin continues to treat Do Hyun and slowly unravels their cumbersome childhood past.
So there you go! You can watch all these on Netflix though I'm afraid you won't be able to view Hwarang as it expired last May 16. However, you can still binge-watch them at Viu app or any Kdrama sites available on the internet. Midnight Runners (2017), Chronicles of Evil (2015), The Divine Fury(2019) are some of his other films.
For the current update, Park Seo Joon is confirmed to have an upcoming movie entitled "Dream" to be paired with IU. The filming began last 7th of May and to be released by 2021.
Dream (Synopsis)
Yoon Hong-Dae (Park Seo-Joon) is a soccer player. He becomes involved in an unexpected case and, because of this, receives disciplinary measures. Yoon Hong-Dae is then appointed the coach for a special national soccer team. The team consists of homeless people and they have never played soccer before. Yoon Hong-Dae and his team compete in the Homeless World Cup.
It is undeniably that Park Seo Joon invades the heart of all Kdrama fanatics and enthroned him as King of Rom-Com.
